Getting Started

  1. Open the Plant Growth Tracker from the Tools page or bookmark it on your phone for quick field access.
  2. On first use, enter your Farm Name, Assessor Name and Email. These are saved automatically for next time.
  3. The app works offline — you can record data without signal and it will sync when you are back online.

Recording a Measurement

  1. Select the Block / Field and Crop Type you are assessing.
  2. Tap Get GPS to capture your location (optional but recommended for mapping).
  3. Enter the Number of Trees Sampled — this is the count of trees you measured to get your averages.
  4. Fill in the growth measurements below. Leave any field blank if not measured this round.
  5. Select a Root Flush Rating (1–5) and Leaf Colour Score (1–5) using the radio buttons.
  6. Optionally add Weather, Recent Treatments and Notes.
  7. Tap Save Record. A results summary appears confirming your data.

How to Take Each Measurement

MetricUnitHow to Measure
Flush LengthcmMeasure the length of the newest vegetative flush from the bud scar to the tip of the terminal leaf. Average across sampled trees.
Canopy SpreadmMeasure the widest horizontal diameter of the canopy at its broadest point using a tape. Record in metres.
Trunk GirthcmWrap a tape measure around the trunk at 30 cm above the graft union. Record circumference in centimetres.
Leaf CountcountCount the total number of fully expanded leaves on a representative shoot or branch. Average across sampled trees.
Internode LengthcmMeasure the distance between two consecutive leaf nodes on the current season’s growth. Short internodes may indicate stress.
Fruit Set CountcountCount the number of fruit (or fruitlets after set) on a representative branch or per tree. Average across sampled trees.
Root Flush Rating1–5Gently dig at the dripline to expose feeder roots. Rate new white root tip activity: 1 = no new roots visible, 3 = moderate flush, 5 = abundant white root tips throughout.
Leaf Colour Score1–5Visually assess overall canopy colour: 1 = pale yellow / chlorotic, 2 = light green, 3 = medium green, 4 = dark green, 5 = deep, glossy dark green indicating excellent nutrition.
Tip: Consistency matters more than precision. Always sample the same trees, same branch height, and same position in the block so your trend data is comparable over time.

Syncing & the Data Tab

  1. When online, records sync automatically. You can also tap Sync Now in the header bar.
  2. Switch to the Data tab to view, filter and manage all saved records.
  3. The Charts tab plots growth trends over time — filter by block and crop to compare seasons.

Email, Print & Export

  1. Email Report — sends a formatted HTML report to your email address via the server. A copy is also sent to Succession Soils.
  2. Print — opens a landscape-formatted print view showing all records in a table. Use your browser’s print or “Save as PDF” option.
  3. Export CSV — downloads all records as a CSV file you can open in Excel or Google Sheets for further analysis.
Offline workflow: Record data in the field without signal. When you return to Wi-Fi, open the app — it will sync automatically. Then use Email, Print or Export from the results view or Data tab.
